It is March 12th. It’s Tree Planting Day. There are many people on the hills. They’re planting trees. People plant many trees today. Plants are important to us. They can make food from the air, water and sunlight. But animals and people can’t do so. Animals and people can get food from plants. Without plants, life will not go on. Plants make the air clean. They can keep water from flowing away(流失). They can stop wind from blowing up sand and earth. But in some places people are cutting down too many trees. This brings about floods and sandstorm. Now more and more people know that plants are important.They will plant more trees and grow more plants. They will try to protect the trees.

Miss Gao is our teacher. She likes to tell us about her weekends. She usually gets up early on Saturday. She exercises in the garden for about half an hour. Then she has her breakfast. She doesn't do housework in the morning. She often plays with her dog for about two hours in the park. The dog runs, barks and jumps happily. She has lunch at a small restaurant near her home. She doesn't take a bus home. She enjoys walking down the street and saying hello to her neighbours. In the afternoon, she cleans her house. She often cooks dinner for herself. Then she watches TV. She enjoys her weekends very much.

Hello, everyone. Do you know Spring Festival? I like it very much. On Spring Festival, I often wear new clothes and have a big dinner with my family. In the evening, we watch TV and making dumplings. Most Chinese people like eating dumplings. I like eating them, too. At night we go outside to look at the lanterns and play with fireworks（烟火）.It is very wonderful.

Every year there is a Spring Festival in China. Usually it is in January or February. It is the most important festival in China. So before it comes, everyone has to prepare things. They buy pork, beef, chicken, fruits and many other things. And they often make a special kind of food-“dumplings”. It means “come together”. On the day before the festival, parents buy new clothes for their children. Children also buy presents for their parents. On the Spring Festival Eve(除夕), all the family members come back to their hometown. This is a happy moment. Some sing and dance, some play cards and others get the dinner ready. When they enjoy the meal, they give each other the best wishes for the coming year. They all have a good time!

There is an interesting festival in China. On that day, people in some places have dragon boat races. The dragon boat is quite long. The front of the boat is like the head of a dragon. Each team has about thirty members. And there is a man beating the drum（敲鼓）on the boat. It’s an exciting race, especially（特别是）when they are reaching the finishing line. The audience（观众）beside the lake shout for their favourite teams. From this match, we have the name of the festival—the Dragon Boat Festival.

This festival has another name——Duanwu Festival. It has a story. The story is about a poet called Qu Yuan. And people often eat rice dumplings at this festival to memorialize（纪念）him.

Tomorrow is Sunday. Amy has no classes. She is going to visit a science museum tomorrow morning. She’s going there by subway. She’s going to have lunch in McDonald’s. Tomorrow afternoon she is going to play football with her friends. At about 3:30, she is going home to do homework. Then she is going to clean her bedroom. She’s going to cook the meals for her father and mother in the evening.

I am busy on weekends. On Saturday morning, I always go to my music club. On Saturday afternoon, I often stay at home and do my homework. Sometimes I go shopping. On Sunday morning, I help my mother clean the room. On Sunday afternoon, I often play ping-pong or basketball.

There are four seasons in China. March, April and May make the spring season. June, July and August make the summer season. September, October and November make the autumn season. The rest(剩下) of the months make the winter season.

The Australia seasons are opposite(相反的) to ours. When it’s spring in China, it is autumn in Australia. Australia is in the south(南方) of the earth. June, July and August are the winter months. The summer is in December, January and February. It’s very hot there in summer.

Near the North Pole(北极), there are only two seasons. The winter nights are long. For more than two months you can’t see the sun, or even the noon. The summer days are long. For more than two months, the sun never goes down, and there’re no nights.
